Our 2016 camp was held at Badaguish near Aviemore

The Boys spent the week under canvas and enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the week, both on site and in the surrounding area. Below is a diary of the week's activities:

We arrived at camp on Saturday afternoon and set about putting up our tents and making ourselves at home for the week. After dinner we walked round nearby Loch Morlich and played football and frisbee on the beach.

On Sunday we attended a Church service in Aviemore, in the afternoon we visited the Highland Folk Museum where Boys stepped back in time and saw how people lived in years gone by. This included an old farm, sweet shop and school. The Boys took part in a 'lesson' from a 1920s era school teacher and learnt how to write with ink and quill. At night we ventured into Aviemore and completed a Treasure Hunt around the town.

On Monday we travelled the short distance to nearby Loch Morlich where Boys took part in Kayaking and Stand Up Paddling. This was a day the Boys really enjoyed and were able to muster all the energy to cover the entire Loch. The stand ip paddling was an activity we had not tried before, but the Boys loved it! In the evening, the Boys carried out a number of challenges to try and break various World Reocrds. This included records for the number of baked beans eaten in one minute, number of star jumps in 30 seconds, number of smarties eaten with chopsticks etc!

On Tuesday we set out from Camp to complete our main hill walk for the week. We took on the hills that overlook the campsite, Craiggowrie and Creagan Gorm. This was a really good walk, with great views towards the Cairngorm mountains and countryside around Aviemore. The Boys all had a great attitude when undertaking the walk. At night, a tired group of Boys and Officers relaxed by watching a movie before having an early night.

Wednesday saw us travel out to Kingussie where we had a full day of rock climbing and abseiling on real crags. It was great for the Boys to experience real world climbing, with some of them able to put skills learned on indoor climbing walls into practice. At night we had our annual Quiz Night, complete with music and picture rounds. The Officers were again victorious, but Boys came pretty close to toppling them this year.

We had an early start on Thursday, heading up to Fort George for a vist. Built just after the battle of Culloden, the Fort is still a working barracks with soldiers still on duty. There was lots to take in including a regimental museum, cannons and the chance to see dolphins at play off the coast. In the afternoon the Boys went swimming at Inverness Leisure Centre, complete with flumes and wave machine, we even had some time for shopping afterwards. At night we had some inter tent games including jenga, table tennis and x-box competition.

On Friday afternoon the Boys went mountain biking around the Glenbeg Estate, this was a really great afternoon with Boys developing their skills at the same time. At night we had a barbeque and Boys had the chnace to try the aerial rings across the pond at our campsite. Needlesss to say, many ended up quite wet!

On Saturday, we got up early, packed up the tents and headed back to Aberdeen, looking forward to our comfy beds for a well deserved rest.
